Zukunftsbau (Building Future) is a private initiative and personally motivated project to revive nature.
It is a landscape project that creates a new model for climate-resilient agriculture, living ecosystems, and community-oriented development in a semi-arid region of Spain.
We combine proven ecological methods with modern technology to show how landscapes can become fertile, water-rich, and future-proof again.
Aragon - especially the Matarraña region around Calaceite, Valderrobres, and Beceite - is one of the most fascinating but increasingly dried-up landscapes in Southern Europe.
The region is suffering, like many others, from olive monocultures. It is highly endangered by erosion, loss of forest and biodiversity, falling groundwater levels, and a declining society.
At the same time, the region offers large areas, natural sinks, and terraces, old olive and almond groves, and proximity to villages.
Here we can really make a difference.
We want to create a living model of the future – a place where we show how degraded landscapes can hold water again, build up soil, produce food, promote biodiversity and inspire people.
We want to create the largest forest garden in Spain.
A place that can serve as an inspiration not only for us, but for many regions of the world.
